I'm so excited about this that I had to share it here.

Next Thursday I'll be attending Volunteer Orientation at the Next Steps Women's Center in my town. I've always felt a calling to work in the field of crisis pregnancy.

When inquiring about volunteer opportunities, I made the decision to disclose my disability. I expected pushback or a negative turn in the conversation once I did so but there was none. In fact, the director asked how they could best accommodate my needs regarding printed material.

I think I had them hooked when I mentioned my BSW.

Anyway, if someone is struggling with anxiety about reaching out and applying for these types of opportunities, hopefully this will give you encouragement to just take the plunge. It's all in how you present yourself.

BSW, Bachelor of SocialWork. Sorry, shouldn't have used the acronym.
